Did you know, there are 766 million LinkedIn users across the world and 90 million of them are senior-level influencers? In addition to this, 63 million of them are in decision-making positions.*

As a business, we have seen a significant demand for sales training using LinkedIn. It is a quickly growing platform that is easy to use, free and has so many possibilities. And, as the earlier stats show, if you are B2B and want to do business with someone, I can pretty much guarantee they they are hanging out on LinkedIn!

In this post you will find 3 simple ways to use LinkedIn that are completely free. There are MANY more things you can do…but you will have to get in touch to hear them!

1. Know your starting point

Before you even start to grow your LinkedIn activity and network, take a photo or a screenshot of your Dashboard that appears on your Profile. On the left, this shows the number of people who viewed your profile over the last 90 days. In the middle we have the number of views of your most recent post or video, and lastly it tells you how many times your profile has been viewed during the last week. It doesn’t matter what these numbers are yet, but it matters that you have a starting point!

2. Let Google help you

Yes, I know, this is what EVERY LinkedIn trainer says. But you actually need to go one step further. Did you know that your Headline on your profile and your ‘About’ section feeds in to Google SEO (the thing that pushes you further up the Google rankings)?

It is so hard to get good SEO on our websites, but don’t worry because LinkedIn does it for you! So, before you come up with a funky title and about section, you need to think of 3-5 keyword searches that your ideal clients will be typing into Google. Then you need to include them in your ‘About’ section. Have a look at my about section – I’ve used bullet points to make it easier to cram in those keywords.

3. Stop passing business on to your competitors!

LinkedIn is secretly (and sometimes not so secretly) moving us around their website to keep us engaged. This can be through Notifications, pop-ups or in this case through simply showing other profiles that you might be interested in.

However sometimes and unknowingly we might have a potential client or collaboration opportunity browsing out profile, and we don’t want LinkedIn butting in and moving them on to someone else. Whilst they use the algorithm to helpfully push people on to profiles that people who look at our profile have also viewed, these will often be people who do similar roles to us and often are competitors!

Thanks, but no thanks LinkedIn!

No probs though, as it is really easy to switch off.

To turn this setting off:

  1. Go to Me
  2. Settings and Privacy
  3. Account Preferences
  4. Site Preferences
  5. Viewers of this profile also viewed
  6. Turn it off
